When we get a cold we run for the nearest pharmacy, stock on medicine and stay in bed. If our cough doesn’t clear within a reasonable time span we go for a scan. We do something. But when people get depression they sometimes ignore the obvious symptoms or wait for them to go away.
Depression is a serious decease and it affects a significant number of people every day. There is nothing wrong with you if you get depression, it is not your fault or anybody else’s fault. It is simply an illness like all illnesses it requires treatment. Waiting for the symptoms to go away can be dangerous as depression may go into deeper stages where recovery becomes more remote and difficult to reach.
That is why with just a few symptoms on hand you should get help for depression and learn as much as you can about your symptoms, prospects and approaches to treatment. There are no strings attached and you can choose a technique that will suit your lifestyle. Whether it’s traditional psychotherapy, treatment with medication, yoga, aromatherapy or guided imagery you are likely to succeed as long as you do something.
This is easier said than done because depression may entail passivity or even panic attacks when you are unable to start a phone conversation. If so, learn about basic ways to relieve stress for a healthy start. Jump off the coach and get moving!
